Children's Opera

Salt Marsh Opera 20-21

Grades 4-7

Salt Marsh Opera’s Kids Love Opera! program provides a fun and educational opportunity for fifth and sixth grade students to experience professional opera.

This year’s program involves an engaging 4 part video series explaining elements of operatic performance. The videos will be e-mailed to participating educators as links to view and discuss during class. They will focus on both classical elements of the art form and how the opera world is evolving in modern times. Salt Marsh Opera seeks input from CT educators when developing the program to ensure the content is curriculum relevant.

The program will culminate in a screening of Salt Marsh Opera’s 2018 production of Gianni Schicci by Giacomo Puccini.

“..these students have developed an appreciation for the arts and realize their importance to our lives and to how we view the world… The opera is an important part of the children’s schooling… Hopefully it will stay with them forever!”

“This provides an enriching cultural experience and an appreciation of opera as an art form, heightened and made accessible by the preview and the study guide.”

“[In my school] we have very few resources and no instrumental program. With the help of P/Arts, my students have the opportunity to hear a live performance and be exposed to quality musical literature at the same time.”

“[The opera singer who came to our school] was absolutely the best ambassador for opera and music in general that I have had the privilege of having in any school… Thank you so much- it will have a profound impact on children’s lives.”
